As part of our British Academy funded research which established Evolution Film, we hosted a workshop on copyright on 19th October delivered by John Saling. John has been a caseworker for the Writers’ Guild of Great Britain (WGGB) for the last five years, advising members on copyright and contract issues and disputes. John also leads campaigns and the equality, diversity and inclusion work of the WGGB. John is a member of our steering group. He ran an interactive hour-long workshop, followed by Q&A covering the basics of UK law on copyright. Adapting it specifically to screenwriters was very beneficial and welcomed by our participants. There were also interesting questions and real-life examples which John replied to, going into details about possible outcomes of the scenarios given. If you would like to become a member of the Writers’ Guild of Great Britain, please see https://writersguild.org. Evolution Film is proud to see the development of this project and its expansion internationally. Our intention is to work in collaboration with as many individuals and organisations worldwide as possible, to create more equality in the industry and working opportunities for people who identify themself with a disability or/and mental health challenges. If you would like to be involved, please contact us at contact@evolutionfilm.org
